Your Color DNA*

*ColorDNA (™️) is a term coined by Joseph Rosenfeld to describe the use of visual and non-visual human coloring.

"The visual context of executive presence begins with color. Base skin tone, body red {hemoglobin}, hair and eye colors make up a person’s Color DNA. This tight knit system of color is a physical composition of inner qualities. In other words, there’s a reason why you look the way you do. And that reason connects your outer self with your inner self."

"When we look at one another, we know things about each other based on our appearance. Our color composition is the first point of connection. What I want you to be able to do is exploit your colors because they represent core strengths of your being."

When people talk about 'presence', they often mean the way someone looks, speaks, and acts in a way that makes them seem confident and trustworthy. A big part of this starts with color: the colors that naturally appear on your body, like your skin tone, eye color, and hair color. These colors form what Joseph Rosenfeld calls your 'Color DNA'.

Think of Color DNA as a mix of your unique physical traits, like the amount of red in your skin (from blood flow, or hemoglobin) and your eye and hair colors. These traits are part of who you are on the outside, but they also connect with qualities inside you. The idea is that these colors aren’t just random; they reflect something about you.

For example, someone with bright eyes or vibrant hair color might give off an impression of energy and boldness, while someone with darker, more subdued colors might appear more grounded and calm. These colors can hint at qualities like warmth, strength, sensitivity, or focus.

By understanding your colors, you can use them to enhance how you present yourself to others. If you know that your colors convey confidence or friendliness, you can use that to your advantage when meeting people, giving presentations, or working in a group. The idea is to make sure that how you look aligns with how you feel and what you want others to know about you. This can make you feel more authentic and comfortable in your skin and that helps you make a stronger connection with others.

So, the next time you look in the mirror, remember that your natural colors are part of your 'visual brand' and they can be powerful tools in showing the world who you are.
